Zentangle, meditate with art

I’m addicted, but I suppose there are worse things to be addicted to.

I’ve discovered the world of Zentangle. I picked up a book many years ago on the way into the bookstore. “Oh, that looks interesting, and it’s on sale.” Years later and only a couple weeks ago, I’m visiting a friend for a relaxing vacation. “I’m sure she would love this.” Well, since I’m giving it away, I thought I might see what it is all about.

Wow! The addiction started almost immediately. Complex patterns are broken down in “steps.” I practiced all the patterns. After practicing with a black pen, I discovered color in my random doodling of zentangles. Each time, I am amazed at the fact that something so complex and beautiful is composed of simple strokes repeated in patterns.

There are many books, but I happened to start with this one.

The fascination and intense focus brought me to a state of relaxation as other things of the day were crowded out for a moment. I could feel my brain relaxing. This was the Zen of Zentangle.

And then, I began to think. If I can make these complex patterns starting with simple strokes of a pen. I wondered what other things I can create in the rest of my life.

What are you creating? Are you stuck? Try Zentangle.
