“I wish I was a photograph tucked in the corner of your wallet…”
~ Andrea Gibson

When you ask people about love, they will often tell you about longing and loss. When you ask about triumph, they will inevitably also remember stories of failure. The artist walks right into those stories of pain to find healing, and that healing is often called hope.

At first, we tell the story for ourselves to find the hope reflected in the faces of our listeners, but when we find that hope and we can walk through that pain safely … if we choose to become the artist, we tell the story for others so that others can find hope too.

As a storytelling artist, I choose and craft the stories that I have an urge to tell. They contain something that I explore and reinforce in myself over and over. When the story is ready to be performed, I still tell it for myself … but I also tell it as a gift for you. I give the healing message to our unconscious: you are not alone … people survive this … you can too … there is hope … the pain gets better … just like this story, life can be a beautiful work of art.
