“Beautiful experience allowing you to dive inwards and pull up what allows
us to truly grow…” ~J.V., New York
About a decade ago, I had what I like to call my early early pre-pre-pre-mid-life crisis. (There have been a few others since.) Endless loops of thought. “Is this what I should be doing? Is this where I should be? Why? What else? What else? What else?” My stomach had a constant intermittent churning as I went into the daily grind.
I expanded and collapsed — from extrovert out everyday meeting people to introvert sitting at the beach with my journal. My brain went into shifting things. Change something. Anything! … You aren’t exercising enough. Let’s exercise more… Get more rest…. Skipping breakfast! That’s the problem… Get a good night’s sleep… Meet more people. Your work schedule is too stressful. Take a break. Go on a vacation. Take a workshop. Talk to a friend. Meditate. Go dancing. Find a new hobby.
Switch things up
If you’re like me, in times of distress you try to switch things up.
My outer world began to look as chaotic as my inner world. Change after change after change brought me back to the same old place …
Then it happened! I can’t explain it fully.
Something shifted
Something shifted inside. I finally understood the cliche. “It was as if a switch was flipped.” Suddenly everything outside fell into place. The light went on. Some people and things fell away. It was as if I was a tuning fork. My tune changed, and everything around me began to have the resonate with me.
I started to feel better. The stomach churning calmed. Connections in life were clearer.
“… coming home to myself.” ~P.K.
All I needed was that inside shift! Did I need to change up all those things outside of me? Maybe? Maybe that’s what led to the inside shift?
Release & Renewal
The annual New Year’s Retreat in Sedona, Arizona, has been my time to slow down with the support of community and friends, take stock of my life, and set my intention for the coming year.
A few years ago, I began to co-teach this class by adding my passion for Storytelling and gathering with a community of Kindred Spirits to help facilitate a healing circle with my friend Suzanne Scurlock.
I weave Storytelling Performance into and around the elements of this class with personal stories and folk tales that have brought me into deeper connection. These heart-opening stories deepen the Community Circle as we meditate and discuss together. We build the safe space to connect and share the depth of our past history and our future intentions. We bring them into the present — the only place where we can create change.
“… a truly sacred process in a supportive community. Each day revealed more magic.” ~ J.M., Scotland
We use the Native American teachings of the four elements to align and balance our own body, mind, emotions, and spirit. The Native American Medicine Wheel teachings bring the concept of the cycle of life and connection to all things. Using personal reflection and ceremony, we deepen our connection to our intention for the upcoming year and envision the practical manifestation of that intention into our world.
“Spirit always seems to bring together those on a similar path at the present moment.” ~ T.F.
