Living a Life of Meaning ~ Norman Lear

Norman Lear brought the marginalized voices of America to television starting in the 1970s as a TV producer. His culture-altering sitcom stories included All in the Family, The Jeffersons, Good Times, … just to name a few. There was time when 120 million people watched his television content every week!

Eric Hirshberg sits down with 93-year-old Norman Lear and asks him to reflect back on living a life of meaning. Of the many moments in his life, Norman Lear remembers the young black hip hop artist that said his life was changed when he saw George Jefferson write a check on The Jeffersons and for the first time realized that a black man could write a check.

How does a white Jewish boy with a father that went to prison grow up to live a life with meaning not just for himself but to so many that watched his television shows and movies?
