Satyagraha – Odetta sings Ghandi’s Truth Force

The face of Gandhi in old age—smiling, wearing glasses, and with a white sash over his right shoulderSatyagraha (origin: Sanksrit) literally means “holding onto Truth” or “Truth Force”. Mahatma Ghandi coined and developed the term for his political movement of passive non-violent resistance to British Imperialism and his support for Indian independence.

For Ghandi, satyagraha is much more than “non-violence.” Ghandi also referred to it as “love-force” and “soul-force”, encompassing a daily way of life with a fierce adherence to Truth and Love.

What would life be like if we all lived by a fierce adherence to Truth and Love? Soul and Compassion?  … “Glory Halleluja” …

Odetta sings “Glory Halleluja”

Odetta sings “Glory Halleluja” at “Satyagraha: Gandhi’s Truth Force in the Age of Climate Change” presented by the Garrison Institute on April 13, 2008 at the Cathedral Church of Saint John the Divine in New York City.

Often referred to as “The Voice of the Civil Rights Movement,” Odetta gives a powerful performance. She died later that year on December 2, 2008, but her inspiration lives on in the video below to anyone waiting to “lay this burden down.”
