Life Purpose in 5 minutes?

A secret to happiness is
knowing your life purpose.

What is your life purpose? Adam Leipzig says that we can figure it out in 5 minutes. (His questions are so simple and yet so profound that I’m re-posting this to my new blog to start off the new year.)

Ask yourself these 5 questions.

  1. Who are you?
  2. What do you do?
  3. Who do you do it for?
  4. What do those people want or need?
  5. How do those people change as a result of what you do?

Here are my answers:

  1. Joel Ying
  2. Physician, educator, storyteller, writer
  3. Patients, listeners, readers
  4. Counseling on health, wellness, and personal growth
  5. I help people to live happier and healthier lives.
What are your answers?

Write down the first answer that comes to you. It’s not forever. What are your answers in this moment?

  1. Who are you?
  2. What do you do?
  3. Who do you do it for?
  4. What do those people want or need?
  5. How do those people change as a result of what you do?
Sparking a Conversation

Imagine yourself at a party, and inevitably someone asks:

So what do you do?

The best answer is the answer to the 5th question: How do you change the lives of others? You will feel inspired by your own answer, and you will immediately strike up a conversation.

My answer: “I help people to live happier and healthier lives.

The next question asked is almost always: “How do you do that?

A conversation is sparked.
